Career Counsellor Update

Welcome Back!

I will be working on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this year and I’m looking forward to meeting with students.

Lots of Career Counselling events are scheduled and on the calendar for high school students. See events listed below and please mark your calendars for events that interest you. (Parents are welcome to attend advising sessions and the Post Secondary Fair)

Grade 12 students will have 1 on 1 meetings starting in September, then grade 11’s will follow, and then grade 10’s. Grade 9 students will be included in a few events throughout the year but don’t start having 1 on 1 visits until grade 10.

Grade 12’s only:

October 1st applications open at universities and colleges across Alberta. It is important to get your applications in asap. Some universities accept by “first apply and meet qualifications, first accepted”. Other university’s pool applications, sort according to meeting qualifications, and then select the highest competitive averages. This means you can meet the application requirements but might not be selected based on the competitive averages. It is important that you are working hard, and doing your best in your courses, because this helps you receive a conditional offer for programs based on your grade 11 marks. It is also important for you to know that on most applications you select a 1st choice program and a 2nd choice program. Please do your research so that you are ready to list 2 programs of preference on your application October 1. There is an application fee required to apply.

Please let me know if you need to meet sooner than later.
