Heart Week February 10-12, 2025

February has arrived and Heart Week is almost here! Here are a few details on what the week will look like and how the students will be fundraising for the Mufu Home in Kenya. K–8

Coin Race: The coin race has begun, and the students are already doing a terrific job raising money for the Mufu Home. The race runs all through Heart Week and ends on Wednesday, February 12th. Ask your mom or dad if you can do some chores to earn coins for the Mufu Home! The Middle School Student Council is organizing the race, and they’ve created an amazing Cars Radiator Springs racetrack to track just how much the grade K-8 students are raising.

Heart Week is jam-packed with many special events and activities. Here is a snapshot of what the week will look like:

Monday 10th: Heart Week begins with an assembly in the gym at 8:45 am (parents welcome to attend). This gives us all an opportunity to reflect on how richly God has blessed us as individuals and as a community and puts the events of the week into the proper perspective of being truly cheerful givers. There’s also a staff vs. students (gr. 9-12) floor hockey showdown at lunch recess.

Tuesday 11th: The staff will be arriving at school extra early and cooking a scrumptious pancake breakfast for all the students! It’s a great way to start our day as a school community, everyone is together, big kids helping the little ones and the staff serving the students. There’s a staff vs student dodgeball game a lunch recess but this time it’s grades 5-8 competing against the staff.

Wednesday 12th - MUFU Day

The day begins with the elementary students participating in a Winter Mini-Olympics featuring lots of unusual outdoor events. The Sr. High students volunteer each year to be group leaders for the younger students. While this is going on the Jr. High students will be setting up the carnival in classrooms throughout the school. All the students will take a break for lunch and then get ready for the afternoon events. When lunch is finished, the carnival will be opened for all to enjoy. During the afternoon there will also be a rummage sale, with the proceeds going to the Mufu Home. This is when previously donated items are offered for sale at bargain prices. The kindergarten students always get first crack at the sale, and after that the rest of elementary grades can shop. (Consider this also to be an appeal to donate gently used toys, books, teddy bears, etc. They can be sent to school with your child or dropped off at the office.) While the grades K-9 are occupied with the carnival, the grade 10-12 students will be in the gym. They will have their fundraising dessert auction followed by their minute-to-win-it class challenge. The day will wrap up with all the students meeting in the gym for praise and worship. All in all, it is a wonderful day of fund raising and school spirit.

Carnival Games:

VIP Access Pass – students only need to pay a one-time fee to play all afternoon. Students pay $5.00, get their passes from their homeroom teacher and they will have unlimited access to all the carnival games all afternoon.

Please contact [email protected] if you have any concerns with affordability or issues with the pass. We will be happy to accommodate families; we want everyone to have the opportunity to participate in the day’s activities and events.

Everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy Mufu Day! Parents are welcome to attend. Come out in the morning and watch your elementary aged children have fun participating in the Winter Mini Olympics! Stay for lunch, the concession is open to visitors. Parents and pre-school aged kids are also invited to stay for the afternoon, to shop at the rummage sale (after the kindergarten students have had a chance to browse), play the carnival games or come and watch your children having fun playing the carnival games! We hope to see you there!

Parents, please note that if you intend to take your child home before the end of the day, we ask that you notify their teacher. If you would like to take them home at the end of the day, we ask that you meet them outside at the regular pick-up location outside. The hallways are very congested as students get their coats and backpacks and adding parents to that space makes it hectic and crowded. Thank you for your cooperation.
